  • Tolerance analysis
  • Documentation
  • Part evaluation based on selected manufacturing

  • Tooling design
  • Design for manufacturing

Here’s a secret: most engineering firms are unable to deliver on their transfer to manufacturing (TTM) claims. We have worked on many projects over the years where our job was essentially to perform design for manufacturing (DFM) on a product that had been designed elsewhere and that the client thought was already ready to transfer.

As experts in this area, we know exactly what is required by the manufacturers. Making your product real involves comprehensive documentation, tolerance analysis, GD&T (geometric design and tolerancing) per ANSI Y14.5, and using volume targets to evaluate parts and select materials.

After handoff, we are actively engaged with TTM, including managing and interfacing with manufacturing partners. (You’ll often see us on calls at 6am Pacific time to talk directly to partners in Europe and Asia.)

If you need a new manufacturer, we can help you select the right partner from our extensive domestic and international manufacturing network. Or, if you use your existing manufacturing partners, we know the right documentation to deliver in order to properly define your product. Either way, we will deliver designs that can truly be manufactured as is, without further refinement.

One way to think of this is: your drawing package is a legal contract that defines the range within which the product will be made. If the drawings are correct and the manufacturer can read them, the product will work as intended.
